World of WarCrafts: Cozy knitted troll mohawk hat by Anreha
February 10, 2011 at 3:00 PM

World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music, fan fiction and more. Sample the whole spectrum on our Arts and Crafts in WoW page.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but out where I live, I just got a good 6 inches of snow dumped on me. According to the groundhog, spring was supposed to come early this year, but apparently "early" doesn't equal today -- either that or the groundhog's a liar. Hopefully there isn't any more snow on the way, but even if it doesn't snow again soon, it's still freezing outside.

With that in mind, today's World of WarCrafts looks like something that would be incredibly welcome while venturing out there in the cold: a warm, knitted hat made to mimic the style of trolls and their outrageous mohawks. This warm and fuzzy creation was put together by Anreha of the guild <Stonewall Misfits> on Proudmoore (US-A), and we were lucky enough to catch a few words with Anreha about the creation of the hat. Follow along after the break for more from Anreha!

New patch 4.0.6 hotfixes released
February 10, 2011 at 12:01 AM

Yet another round of hotfixes for Patch 4.0.6 has been released, according to blue poster Zarhym. As with prior hotfixes, some may go live immediately, while others may require server restarts. Regardless, there are plenty of interesting fixes this time around, from class tweaks to adjustments to dungeons and raids. A few highlights:
  • Haste is again properly increasing resource regeneration rates for applicable melee classes. However, this fix will require a realm restart to take effect.
  • For priests, Inner Focus now appropriately increases the critical heal chance of Flash Heal, Binding Heal, Greater Heal, and Prayer of Healing.
  • For those who are wondering where those bouquets of roses went, fear not -- Bouquet of Ebon Roses and Bouquet of Red Roses for the Love Is in the Air event now properly drop from Cataclysm dungeons.
Read on for the full list of hotfixes.

Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for Feb. 9
February 9, 2011 at 6:05 PM

Patch 4.0.6 has only been out a day, and we've already got a list of hotfixes. While some have been pushed live, others may required a server restart, so if you don't see the changes go into effect immediately, don't panic! A few highlights from the list:
  • Players who have used the Paid Race Change service to transfer to a goblin or worgen character post-patch 4.0.6 can properly use the dungeon finder again. Thank goodness!
  • Possibly due to the bugs present prior to patching, the Love Is in the Air event has been extended by 48 hours.
  • In Blackwing Descent, Maloriak's Aberrations should correctly spawn even if Vile Swills are still alive from the previous phase.
Follow us after the break for a full list of hotfixes.

The Daily Quest: Totems, totems, totems
February 7, 2011 at 6:00 PM

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

Way back in vanilla, before the days of blood elves and draenei, someone on the Scarlet Crusade realm had a brilliant idea: Let's take a raid of 40 paladins, pit them against a raid of 40 shaman, and see what happens. The whole ordeal took place in Mulgore, and the video above was filmed. You'll notice it's a bit laggy -- that's because the server was a bit laggy. In fact, though the fight was an attempt to prove which was better, Alliance or Horde, it quickly became apparent as 40 Consecrations went off and 160 totems were laid down that the server was the ultimate victor, as it spontaneously shut down shortly after.

Speaking of shaman, we've got a few posts about the totem-wielding elemental lovers today:

Know Your Lore, Tinfoil Hat Edition: Silence of the Titans
February 6, 2011 at 8:00 PM

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You're playing the game, you're fighting the bosses, you know the how -- but do you know the why? Each week, Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney make sure you Know Your Lore by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

Once upon a time, godlike creatures of order called Titans landed on a small, unassuming planet named Azeroth and proceeded to reorganize it. After they left, the planet was invaded by malevolent creatures called Old Gods -- creatures of chaos and destruction. The Titans returned to the little planet, horrified at what had happened, and rose up against the Old Gods and their elemental lieutenants in what was the most horrific war the planet had ever seen. But instead of destroying the Old Gods, the Titans were forced to imprison them deep within the planet.

They set safeguards over the fragile world -- draconic aspects to watch over the various domains of life, the earth, magic, time, and nature. They created new guardians to watch over the prisons of the Old Gods. They created a magical font of energy, tied to the Twisting Nether -- the Well of Eternity. And satisfied with their work, the Titans left. No one on the fragile planet has seen them since; they are spoken of in history and in legend, but they've never returned.

Why? Of all the questions in Azeroth, this is the biggest by far. Why did the Titans imprison the Old Gods, instead of starting over from scratch? Common theory suggests they liked the planet too much to re-originate it, yet they left behind safeguards that would do exactly that, if the Old Gods escaped again. So why not simply do so to begin with? Why leave the world as it stood? More importantly -- why are we here?

Today's Know Your Lore is a Tinfoil Hat edition, meaning the following is a look into what has gone before with pure speculation on why it happened. The events presented are events that happened in Azeroth's history, but the conclusion is simply a theory and shouldn't be taken as fact.
